Cruisin' Manitoba For Multiple Sclerosis

MS CRUISE ACHIEVES GOAL OF $100,000

After a day of travelling throughout Manitoba, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is $100,000 richer. Thanks to 135 fundraisers driving their cars and motorcycles as part of Elite Communications Cruisin' Manitoba for MS, crucial funds were raised to support MS research and to provide a variety of programs and services to Manitobans living with multiple sclerosis.

“This is the best yet,” said Norm Velnes, president of the Manitoba Division of the MS Society. “Beautiful weather, gorgeous cars and bikes, and meeting our goal – it's icing on the cake.”

The event began in Winnipeg and travelled to Beausejour for a show ‘n' shine along the main street and a Ukrainian lunch. There was even a perogy eating contest in which the local mayor, Harvey Giesbrecht took part.

Participants then headed to Pinawa for live entertainment, hayride tours of the town, another show ‘n' shine, silent auction, Italian dinner and awards ceremony.

This was the sixth annual event. Two special memorial awards were given out this year in honour of Don Bargen, the president of Elite Communications who passed away of cancer earlier this year.

Cosmo Grant from 92 CITI FM was the host for the event while Kaiser Jets, who performed classic rock, entertained at the show 'n shine in Pinawa.  Fundraisers such as a rainbow auction, 50/50 draw, and a scavenger hunt were available once the Cruisers arrived in Pinawa. Close to 400 people enjoyed a hearty Italian dinner prepared by the Pinawa Volunteers (see pictures below).

Multiple sclerosis randomly attacks the central nervous system of young adults, affecting the control they have over their bodies. Its potentially devastating effects last the rest of their lives.
