Deep River Science AcademySummer Session Soon To Be UnderwayBy Arlene Davidson The campus staff are busy making final preparations for the arrival of our 2006 term students for the commencement of the program on July 3rd . Due to the increasing competition of summer opportunities for high school students and the loss of marketing proceeds, the campus will operate at half capacity this term with only 11 students filling the 20 available project placements. Despite the low enrolment numbers we are all very excited about the project line-up for the 2006 term, and anticipate another successful term at the Whiteshell Campus. The 2006 term is set for success with the guidance and leadership of our exemplary Tutors who hail from coast to coast. Our Tutors have been busy developing the educational curriculum that will be delivered to our students to assist them in understanding the theory and methodology required to fully participate as members of their assigned research teams. The mandate of our program is to encourage youth to pursue careers in research science and engineering. The first hand proof that the program is working, is evident in the fact that two of our student alumni from the 2002 term, are now successful post-secondary students who have returned to Pinawa to be employed by the campus to nurture the next generation of Canadian research scientists. The DRSA has also received a Service Canada grant, which allowed the campus to employ two graduate students for the 2006 term. Information about the projects and our Tutors can be viewed on our website at www.drsawhiteshell.ca . Back... |
