The Coach Approach, June 2007

Week One: Perfection

This month we will explore Personal Power, or as Dr. Demartini calls it, the perfection that already exists. Dr. Demartini works with several excellent principles; all things happen for a reason, the world is your mirror and there is always balance.

I am in awe of how we, as humans, keep ourselves limited or as I often say —play the smaller, safer game. In my years of coaching this has been a recurring theme. Most often my clients know what “their greatness” is but often lack the wherewithal to make that greatness a reality—to claim their Personal Power!

And of course, if the world is your mirror there is wisdom there for me. What we see in outer world is also a reflection of our inner world. My personal challenge is to always invite myself to and allow myself to “play the bigger game.”

We must muster up all our courage and go exploring, seeking the wisdom to wake up to the perfection that already exists. Some of the ways to do this are:

1. Attend a personal transformation workshop.
2. Develop a personal vision and mission statement.
3. Work with a coach to act as your guide through this process.
4. Ask each day for the awareness of your greatness and the guidance to make it come alive.
5. Journal, visualize, and dream.
6. Start allowing your greatness to come forth.
7. Be very very grateful for today, this moment.

Food for thought: What is your greatness? How do you allow it to show up in your life and your work?

Story:
I worked with a client we’ll call Susan, who loved to write. Before she married and started a family she spent much of her spare time writing. It was a world she reveled in! Years later with a full time career, a husband, two small children and a home to care for, writing was only a dim memory for Susan. Yet there was this longing and a feeling of something missing, that there must be more to life. Although Susan assured me she absolutely did not have time to write I encouraged her to begin writing again, even if it was in a small way. But, of course, she did not have time. To my delight, months later I got an email from Susan saying she had finally starting writing and the world was now a wonderful place again. I could feel the joy in her worlds! Susan came forward and directed her life!

Week Two: Dreams

Personal Power is about dreams. Dreams are inviting, tantalizing, exciting and sometimes scary. Dreams invite us to different worlds.

What would happen is you turned your Personal Power over to your dreams?

Story: Following Your Dreams

One of my clients, Jill (pseudo name) was living on the Canadian Prairies, working at the local University in a support position and spending her spare time exploring the world of film—producing, directing and writing. Jill decided to explore that awakening within to see where it led her. Eventually Jill left her support job. She was invited to participate in a national project to develop upcoming talent in Canada. She left the comfort of her familiar surroundings and moved to another city to pursue her greatness. Today, Jill is continuing her exploration and finding doors opening up that she did not even know existed. She has come forward and is directing her life!

Jill’s story is a testament to von Goethe’s statement—Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.

What does boldness look like to you? How has boldness in your life led to genius, power and magic? Or how could it?

Week Four:

"There comes a time in everyone’s life when you have to open the door and let the future in." Rohit Talwar

1. Change is often the arbiter of "the future knocking on your door." What triggers you to accept change in your life or to try to hold it at bay?

2. How might you learn to simply let life "be" and not fight it?

3. Going a step further, what would your life look like if you embraced the future and all it might bring? What if you accepted that the future is "now?" How might this empower you personally?

4. I invite you to accept change in one small area of your life and see how your world changes around you. Notice if you feel an increase in personal power by choosing change!
