Aboriginal Music Week
November 3-7. The 5-day event begins November 3 and includes five evening concerts, three free lunch hour concerts and three music business workshops. Artist Andy Warhol once said that everyone would, sooner or later, have their own 15 minutes of fame and that’s what the Winnipeg Art Gallery is offering to city artists through their new program 15 Minutes. This free, ongoing series of artist salon evenings takes place the first Thursday of every month. Admission to 15 Minutes is free.
- Yousuf Karsh: Regarding Heroes
Continues until January 3. If you were anybody in the 20th century, eventually you were photographed by Yousuf Karsh. Armenian in background, Karsh fled ethnic turmoil in Turkey by immigrating to Canada in 1925. He eventually settled in Ottawa in the early 1930s, where he established a photographic portrait studio. Karsh went on to achieve world renown for the way he interplayed lights and darks in creating iconic character studies of Helen Keller, Marian Anderson, Ernest Hemingway, Grey Owl, and Mohammed Ali to name only a few.

Strong Poison

In this prelude to The Marriage of Figaro, the young Count Almaviva falls in love with Rosina. He enlists the help of his former servant, the jack-of-all-trades barber, Figaro, to help him free her from the clutches of her greedy, aged guardian, Dr. Bartolo.The Count wants Rosina to love him for himself and not his money and so pretends to be a penniless student. Rosina returns his love, but she’s a prisoner; Bartolo keeps her locked in his house and plans to marry her himself. Figaro smuggles Almaviva into the house and a hilarious series of intrigues follow. |

We are looking for volunteers for a new Downtown Watch Customer Service Program. We are expanding our program to include the senior members of our community, along with people with disabilities and anyone interested who might be interested in providing outstanding customer service.
Responsibilities may include collaboration and distribution of print material, manning display booth for promotional or recruitment purposes, attending special events, identifying new businesses, liaison with public and BIZ membership, and much more.
