VW
Cares
Dear
Parents,
We
love our school and all the sights of grass,
trees, lakes, and rocks! But we cannot see
that because, at the back of the school there is
a gigantic lake and we hate to see people pollute
the lakes :( Please stop polluting, it's
bad for the environment and we all want a
healthy community. Although some people
don't care, we do. Some people like animals
and they won't have anything to drink or eat. So
please take care.

Thank
You
Thanks
again to the VW Parent Council and parent community
for organizing and contributing to our staff appreciation
week in March.
The tokens of appreciation that came in the form
of baking, gifts, assistance with recess supervision
and the luncheon were much appreciated by staff!

Houses
The
Action star shone brightly this month at École
Van Walleghem School! The Student Voice campaign
entitled Brick by Brick raised an astonishing $6595
which will build 1.3 houses in Uganda . The
students' touching video was featured on the Pembina
Trails School Division web site and has been entered
in a divisional media contest. In addition, Operation
Donation received 1221 food items for Winnipeg Harvest. The
generosity of our families is inspirational. Our
children will be great citizens having led and participated
in these action initiatives to make the world a
better place.
Please
look for registration forms to come home early next
week. The plans for the 2009-2010 school year are
well underway. We look forward to sharing with
you the class configurations for next year. We expect
to send these out towards the end of the month.
We will then begin the process of class placement
and will invite your input. For information
on class placement please visit our Parent
Student/Handbook .
You
will notice no shortage of opportunities for our
students to get involved in school activities this
Spring. Auditions have just taken place for the
Spring Musical. The badminton teams have begun
practicing. Jump Rope clubs have started. Track
and Field is around the corner. The Space Camp count
down is on. Earth Week events are planned.
What a fine school!
Read
on for more information on these and more exciting
events. Your questions or comments are welcome.

iPods
in the Library?
You
bet! Van Walleghem School Library will run a
pilot program using iPods to store audio books
downloaded from iTunes and Audible Kids. There
are presently 9 iPod shuffles available for circulation.
Each device holds a single audio book.
Interested
students in grades 5 and 6 will be signing out the shuffles with
the book of their choice loaded and ready to go!
The Library hopes to keep expanding its selection
of titles to include audio books for all ages as
well as books in French. Stay "tuned"
for an update in May!

Attention
Parents
Recently,
one of the Pembina Trails School Division's staff
suffered the loss of a young family member because
of inhalant sniffing. Parents need to educate themselves
and talk to their children about this dangerous
activity. Empowering our children with information
and giving them ways to resist peer pressure are
some of the best ways to help keep them safe.
Please
read the information on the links below and share
this with your children.

Notes
from the Music Room
A
huge thank you to our forty Grade 4/5/6 choir members,
“Trouvers,” who sang beautifully and played their

Home before the break. They brought joy and
happiness to the seniors in attendance, who sang
and clapped along!
Our
compliments as well, go out to all of our grade
5 students, for their excellent listening skills
when they attended the WSO performance of “The Elements
in Music~ Earth, Wind, Fire and Water” on March
26 th .
Both
groups were excellent good will ambassadors for
Van Walleghem School! And both groups can take a
bow for their excellent efforts!
