Message from the Administration

February was certainly a Five Star month here at Van Walleghem. First and foremost, it is our pleasure to thank Parent Council for treating the staff to a week of absolute indulgence. From the star-studded bulletin board to recess duty and daily treats to the dynamite disco luncheon we could not have dreamed of more.

Band Notes

The month of January and February were extremely busy for Band Students. The Band Camp 2007 was a big hit for the Grade 8 Band. They had lots of fun learning music with the wilderness and the snow. Also, the Spring Concert on February 8, 2007 brought together students of this community at Immanuel Pentecostal Church. This was the first time that students experienced how all their hard work at their schools sounds as a combined ensemble. Finally, the Grade 8 Band performed at the annual Optimist Festival at the Winnipeg Convention Center. Three adjudicators were listening while we performed. They gave the band some comments and suggestion on how to better the overall sound of the ensemble. This is music education at its best!!!!

Notes & Quotes

"Art is humanity's most essential, most universal language. Now more than ever, all people need to see clearly, hear acutely, and feel sensitively through the arts. These skills are no longer just desirable. They are essential if we are to survive together with civility and joy."

Books for Ghana

Thank you to everyone for the generous donation of books in our quest to reach out and assist in another part of the world!

We have several boxes of excellent book choices to send to the Osu Children’s Library project in Ghana, West Africa.
We were privileged to have a former VW student, Noreen Mian, come to present to our Middle Years classes. She spent several months working in Ghana on this library project. What a timely and wonderful connection for us!  Thank you to Patti Thomson for making us aware of Noreen and her experience.
