May is here and so is the sunshine!  This month we will be wishing our Grade 8s Bon Voyage as they head off to Space Camp. We hope to see you at the school for our Musical Production, "The Best Little Theatre in Town" which will be held on May 29. Of course, you are always welcome to join us for Marathon Club which runs Mondays and Wednesdays after school. Speaking of marathons, after marathon teaching careers four of our teachers will be crossing the finish line to retirement and running along to the next chapter of their lives

Coat Hanger Novel Study

Ms. Greene's Grade 5 class has been working on a COAT HANGER NOVEL STUDY. Our other novel studies have focussed on setting, events, problems and solutions. We decided to work on character traits, appearances, likes and dislikes for this novel study. Our class wanted to do a more creative novel study, so we displayed our work as a mobile, using a coat hanger, yarn and coloured paper!

Hola amigos!

The Grades 5's and 6's have been meeting one lunch hour a week to sing and learn in Spanish.  We had a great time practicing Spanish and playing games to learn the language. Our last activity was a smashing success as we broke our pinata to share all the treats inside.  It was a Spanish fiesta!

Marathon Club

To date, Marathon Club has been enjoying great weather and great participation!  We have approximately one hundred and seventy students and sixteen adults participating on a regular basis.  In May, Marathon Club will begin to meet three times a week.  We will continue to run Mondays and Wednesdays after school, from 3:30 - 4:30, and we will add an 8 o'clock muffin run on Friday mornings, to our weekly schedule.

Notes-n-Quotes

Music Month: Celebrating Music in Manitoba Schools?April 2007 April was "Music Month" in Manitoba.
We celebrated music every day by listening to morning announcements filled with interesting facts about music and the importance of music education in the lives of children.
Some of our VW Grade 5 musicians provided much of our 1:03 p.m. school listening program in April with their soprano and alto recorder playing. Staff, students and parents very much enjoyed listening to their solos and ensembles. Thank-you Grade 5 student musicians.
