Council News
Although
the 2007 Linden Woods Fall Classic was a damp
one, it could not extinguish the spirit of community
building, camaraderie and participation that was
demonstrated at this year's event! A record turnout
and a record amount of pasta served up by the
Potenza Family kept everyone warm, well fed and
happy, and organizers and volunteers very busy!
We
are still working on the final numbers for this
event, but it does appear that the 2007 Fall Classic
will be a very successful one for the Site Development
Fund. Thanks to all our volunteers and sponsors
who generously donated time, funds and prizes
to the event. Also, big thanks to the students
and families of VW for all the toonies and draw
prize donations.
Thanks
must also be extended to the Roberts Family and
staff and administration of VW School for their
contributions and support of this event.
For
more information on this event, Please see the
Linden Woods Fall Classic Update submission.
Fall
Classic

The
4 th Annual Linden Woods Fall Classic may have
gotten off to a cold and wet start, but it ended
with a hot pasta brunch and lots of warm smiles
in the VW gym. Lots of heat was also generated
by the auction of the Bomber autographed football
with encouragement from our guest announcer,
'Eye-in-the Sky' Fiona Odlum, the ball sold
for $355 with all funds going to the Site Development.
Thanks
again to Isaiah and his dad, Charles, for their
very gracious donation of the ball.

Message
from Administration
It
was certainly a pleasure to see so many parents
and students here for Tri-Conferences. We
trust that you found the first round of conferences
informative. If ever you have a question or concern,
never hesitate to contact your child's teacher(s). The
Scholastic Book Fair has proven successful again
this year; how humbling that so many books were
purchased as classroom gifts. The gift of
books is certainly a gift that keeps giving as
all students benefit from a classroom rich in
literary resources.
If
someone 'gets your goat' you may feel annoyed
but when Student Voice gets a goat it is a thing
of Joy! Thanks to the patronage at the Student
Voice bake sale, our 'action' group was able to
raise enough money to make it possible of World
Vision to purchase a goat for a family in the
third world. This is wonderful example of
student initiated action to make the world a better
place.

Hope
your Hallowe'en was enjoyable! We all had a
'spooktacular' time at our annual Van Walleghem
Hallowe'en Circuit in the gymnasiums. Many thanks
to the terrific grade 5 and 6 Sports Leaders
who were assigned to set up and dismantle the
circuit over the three day event. We're already
looking forward to our Christmas Circuit.

Out Poverty

If
you are in the school, please take a look at the
paintings in the black frames in the Middle Years
Hallway. The paintings inside are part of a program
created by Cameron Cross, the Visual Arts Consultant
for Pembina Trails School Division.
Last year, almost 400 students in our division,
including Mrs. Long's grade 2 class, created works
of art that told of their life in Canada. During
the summer, Cameron Cross took the paintings to
Uganda and Tanzania and gave them to children who
live in orphanages. Most children in these orphanages
have been affected personally by the AIDS epidemic.
While there, Cameron Cross taught the African students
to paint and what you see in the frames at our school
are the pictures that the African students have
painted for the students in our division. Once they
have been displayed, the paintings will be given
to the students from our school who participated
as an art exchange. If you are interested in learning
more about the project, please visit the website
at
www.brushoutpoverty.org.
Lunch
Program
With
the weather changing and temperatures cooling down,
we are looking forward to enjoying the many pleasures
of winter. Winter activities in the snow and
on snow banks keeps the students busy and happy
during their lunch hour recess. Building forts,
making snow angels, sliding down snow banks and
creating paths in the newly fallen snow are just
a few of the many activities that can be enjoyed
during the winter months. One key to being
able to enjoy the winter is being properly dressed.
Please ensure that your child brings the proper
warm clothing to play outdoors.
