Help Needed for Art Framing!

Every three weeks, our children's beautiful framed art work is changed.  We need more people to help.  Come out and be a part of our group of 'framers'.  It's fun, easy, and you don't need any special skills.  Time commitment is 2 to 3 hours every 3 to 4 weeks, usually on a Friday morning.  If interested, contact Lorraine Kerr at plkerr@mts.net

Message from Administration

Happy Thanksgiving! We have much to be thankful for.

The school year is off to a great start at VW.  It takes a whole community to make such a fine school possible.  We can all celebrate that things are running very smoothly!

We look forward to seeing many VW families on Thanksgiving Monday for the Fall Classic.  Did you know that the Fall Classic raised $9665 last year which will go towards a new play structure? (We are almost there!)

The Walkathon was a huge success.  Walkathon funds are used for a variety of in-school initiatives including bringing Artists in the School to Van Walleghem.  Last month we enjoyed the entertainment of Fubuki Daiko, a local Japanese drumming group.

Later this month, we will be holding tri-conferences. Your child's teacher is looking forward to meeting with you and your child to discuss goals for the year.  In the younger grades the teacher will take some time with parents only and then the child will be asked to join the conference. The inclusion of the students in the conference helps the child to grow in personal responsibility for their learning.

The VW eNewsletter now has over 500 subscribers.  We keep statistics on the number of people that open this page and also how many people actually click on the various links on this page.  We are seeing the numbers rise from month to month and have received a great deal of positive feedback.

Have a happy Thanksgiving and ... happy clicking.

Sincerely,

Mr. Burns                               Mme Ragoonanan

Notes and Quotes

Welcome Back!

I hope you enjoyed the sounds of summer!  VW students are experiencing the joy of making music in a variety of ways - listening, singing, dancing, and playing.  Your child is a valued participant in our music program.  Evidence shows that involvement in the arts plays an important role in the positive growth of every child.  The time, effort and energy invested in the study of music provides lifelong dividends.

Thank you for your support of music education!

' So long as the human spirit thrives on this planet, music in some living form will accompany and sustain it and give it expressive meaning .'

Note:  The K-4 Holiday Concert is December 10, 2007

Note: Choir repertoire will continue to be incorporated into our music classes.

Terry Fox Run

Congratulations to all our VW students who raised a total of $749.28 for the Terry Fox Run.  Well done!

Lunch Program

With the school year well under way, the Lunch Program is up and running smoothly.  Each school day finds 18 adult supervisors and 14 student lunch monitors supervising 22 classrooms of students from grades 1 through to 8.  The Lunch Program offers direct supervision in each classroom while students are eating their lunch and thorough supervision both indoors and outdoors during the recess portion of the lunch hour, with the primary goal being to help ensure our students have a safe and pleasant lunch hour.
