Lewis remembers more dearly autumn afternoons
. . . that lay intensely silent under old great
trees, but our autumn afternoons are full of
energy and excitement. We had the pleasure
of welcoming 545 students who will be supported
by our outstanding staff. We would like to
offer a special welcome to our new families from
Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, Ecuador, Saudi
Arabia, New South Wales and Philippines.
There
was an upbeat and inviting mood in the air at our
Parent Information evening as parents and teachers
began their partnership. We are pleased to announce
that all of our homerooms now have a webpage so
you can stay informed through your teacher's class
web page. You will find a link to Class Web Pages
on the VW homepage.
The
official bell was rung (see photo) by Julia, representing
our youngest students, and Chris, representing the
graduating class of 2008. This is a Russian
tradition that has found a home at VW since 2004.
Please accept
our invitation to join the Parent Council! Parent
Council meets monthly and is responsible for many
important initiatives including playground enhancement,
social events for families and fundraising. The
first meeting is on September 18 (at 7:00 pm in
the school library).
It
is our pleasure to work in such a fine community
and we are looking forward to another great year.

Walk
to School Day
Van
Walleghem School is participating in International
Walk to School Day! That's when children,
parents, and schools take part in a worldwide
event to celebrate their environment, their health,
and the many benefits of walking! Last year, over
3 million children, parents and community members
from 36 countries around the world participated
in International Walk to School Day, and this
year promises to be even bigger!
