Continuing Education Students Lend a Hand with Holiday Fundraiser

Students and staff at Red River College got into the Christmas spirit a little early this year, with help from a Students' Association fundraiser that gave them some face-time with Santa Claus himself.

From Dec. 5-7, Students' Association reps paired with Professional Photography students from the School of Continuing Education to host a "Photos with Santa" fundraiser in support of the RRCSA's Food Bank.

The photos were taken in Lockers Lounge, and helped to raise nearly $450 for the Food Bank.

Instructors Honoured at Holiday Appreciation Reception

RRC's School of Continuing Education paid tribute to its key contributors last week, during the annual Instructor Appreciation Reception at the Notre Dame Campus.

The event gave Continuing Education staff a chance to say thank-you to their pool of instructors, many of whom balance their teaching responsibilities with real-world industry commitments.

As part of the reception, held Dec. 13 in the Voyageur Dining Room, organizers recognized those instructors marking their 10th, 20th, 25th, 35th and 40th years of service with the College. They also honoured Nursing Instructor Michelle Alarie (shown, top left) and Business Analyst Instructor Sandie Foster (top right) with this year's Excellence in Teaching Awards.

"My experience with RRC was exactly what I was looking for ... After attending the University of Manitoba for a year, I realized that school was not for me. When I enrolled at RRC for Business Administration, the atmosphere was different -- more my style. Classes were smaller and on a more personal level. Interacting with the professors was much easier and I just felt more comfortable and more at home."

-- Katherine Quiboquibo (Business Administration, 2010)
