1. Countdown to Convention

In just over five weeks, Lutherans from across the ELCIC will meet in Saskatoon, SK for the 13th Biennial National Convention taking place July 14-17. As we count down the weeks to convention, we will highlight what's new, what to watch for, how to keep informed and news to know in the weekly newsletter Countdown to Convention.

2. Covenant People: In Mission for Others

As delegates, visitors, staff and special guests come together for our National Convention we will be reminded that our call to be In Mission for Others articulates the mission and ministry of our church. This year we will come together for our convention under the theme Covenant People: In Mission for Others.

Our theme is drawn from Isaiah 56:6-8 and focuses on our identity as God's servants, and on the responsibility we bear toward each other and collectively toward others by virtue of this covenant. We are joined together in the covenant of baptism and called to live our lives as disciples of Jesus. ELCIC National Bishop Susan C. Johnson has been encouraging the ELCIC community to engage in a call to spiritual renewal and to be a more visible witness to our neighbours. At National Convention, we will explore aspects of this call to read, pray, worship, study, serve, give and tell.

The word "covenant" is also a synonym for "treaty," so the theme Covenant People: In Mission for Others gives us the opportunity to explore how we as a church and as Canadians are treaty people, and challenge ourselves to renewed relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous people.

The 2011 National Convention logo is comprised of the visual elements of a pitcher and water, signs of the baptism that gathers and connects us. This life-giving water is ever weaving around and through God's covenant people.

3. Convention News

In addition to the weekly newsletter that will count us down to the start of convention, there are many other ways you can keep informed with all things convention-related:

4. Visitors Welcome

The ELCIC's National Convention isn't just for delegates! Visitor fees are very reasonable and allow you to attend business sessions, hear greetings from special guests, participate in Friday afternoon's forum The Blanket Exercise, and be uplifted by daily worship services, as well as bring information and new ideas back to your local congregation. Further information on how to register as a visitor for the 2011 National Convention is available on the convention website.

5. Don't forget your Evangelical Lutheran Worship

All delegates and visitors are asked to bring a copy of Evangelical Lutheran Worship (EvLW) to convention. If you do not have a copy, consider borrowing one from your local congregation or from a neighbouring congregation.
EvLW will be our primary resource for all convention worship. If you are not able to access a copy, Augsburg Fortress will have copies for sale at convention or a limited number of copies will be available to be signed out by deposit at the time of registration at TCU Place.

Some of the resources mentioned in E-Communique are available from the ELCIC National Office. If you
prefer to order those materials in print, phone 1.888.786.6707 ext 177 or 204.984.9177; email orders@elcic.ca;
or fax your order to 204.984.9185 "Attn Orders Desk". Be sure to fully describe the item and tell us the
quantity you need. You will be invoiced when the order is filled.
