Alumni Profile - Bryan Scott
2005 RRC Graphic Design Grad
With a passion for architecture and an eye for photography, a Red River College graduate is making a name for himself in Winnipeg. A graphic designer by day and a hobbyist photographer by night, Bryan Scott is using the skills he learned at RRC to capture incredible photos of locations throughout Winnipeg.
Bryan became interested in graphic design while he was studying architecture nearly 10 years ago. In 2003, he enrolled in RRC’s Graphic Design program, which had just moved over to the new Princess Street Campus in the Exchange District.
“I was really excited about going to school at the Princess Street Campus,” he says. “I think it was one of the best architectural projects in the city in years and it made me feel proud to be a part of RRC.”
After graduation, Bryan was hired as a graphic designer by Pattison Outdoor and has now been there for four years. As a hobby, Bryan is following another passion of his -- photography.
Bryan’s been capturing breathtaking images of scenes around Winnipeg for several years now. Nearly two years ago, Bryan started a blog called Winnipeg: Love and Hate to showcase photos that he took from around the city. “My blog got way more attention than I thought it would,” says Bryan. Visitors to the blog obviously like what they’re seeing as Winnipeg: Love and Hate was voted blog of the year by Uptown Magazine in their Best of Winnipeg 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Bryan’s images have also been featured in several publications, including Urban NDN, the Uniter and local arts and culture magazine, G.LOVE.
“What I learned in Graphic Design at RRC can often be applied to photography,” says Bryan. “The ability to compose photos comes from my experience as a graphic designer.”
