Age Friendly Committee Reveals New Logo And The Latest Update...

by Marsha Sheppard, Volunteer And Resident Of Pinawa

Soon you will see a new Age Friendly Pinawa sign on the Pinawa sign at Vanier and Hwy 211.  Your Age Friendly committee has been working hard on a variety of issues – some easy to solve and fix (like personal shopping at the Solo store for Seniors) and others that require a bit more effort and collaboration with public works (such as a designated safe crosswalk across Burrows at the Mall) and private businesses (replacing heavy doors with those that are easier to open).

Age Friendly Pinawa and the Pinawa Chamber of Commerce have produced a checklist for businesses to give them some pointers on how to be more Age Friendly.  In the fall, the Chamber will hold a contest for the most Age Friendly business in town!

Several items on our agenda include: transportation and meal program options (if we have enough customers) and affordable housing.  An information night will encompass “All Things Pinawa” for you to let us know where we can improve services for all is planned for early fall.

The Age Friendly Committee (Marsha Sheppard Pinawa Chamber, Clay McMurren Councillor, Nancy Bremner Pinawa CDC, Bill Early Volunteer, Martha Owen Volunteer, Connie Plunkett LGD of Pinawa, Pat Porth Two Rivers Seniors Council, Lloyd Rattai Councillor, Judith Simpson volunteer board member of Two Rivers and Alf Wikjord Volunteer) look forward to hearing from you on areas that could be improved for toddlers through to Seniors.
