Pinawa Invites The World DayDespite the snow there was a grand turn out...by Nancy Bremner Pinawa CDC Pinawa continues to invite the world's family-centred entrepreneurs to become Pinawa citizens, build new homes, grow successful businesses, raise their families and enjoy life in Pinawa. To demonstrate Pinawa's friendliness, Pinawa held an “Invite The World Day” on February 25, 2007. For the first time since the Imagine Yourself in a Place campaign has gotten underway Pinawa's citizens were given the opportunity to play a personal role in their town's goal to double its population. Children in the elementary school made up posters that were hung in the mall and other locations around town a few weeks before the event while the Pinawa Secondary Art Class made a giant welcome greeting card (shown on the photo page). The card was placed in the Pinawa Library after the event for people who would like to sign it Free hot dogs, hot chocolate, and coffee sponsored by Tangent Strategies, Acsion, and Clippers Plus Hair Stylists; were given out to all who attended. To further provide incentive for people to come out of their homes during a week that featured at least 30 cm of snow; the Pinawa Chamber of Commerce had a free silent auction. The main event was a group photograph in which 259 Pinawanians waved their welcome. There was also a demonstration of skiing abilities by the Jackrabbits and a free fun skate hosted by the Winnipeg River Recreation District. Visit the photo page of the events and people having fun. Congratulations to Alex Hilliard who entered the draw to guess how many people where in the photograph. Alex guessed 258!
