Survivor's Hope Crisis Centre Inc. (SARAH)

Canadians Are Committed To Supporting Charitable Organizations...

by Holly Parcey, SARAH

According to the latest statistics 22 million Canadians donate 8.9 billion dollars annually to charitable and non-profit organizations.  What motivates people to do this?  Surveys show it is a combination of a capacity to give, connection to the charitable organization, and a commitment to their community.  While individuals with higher incomes generally donate more, those with lower incomes give a greater percentage of their incomes.  Also, those who give more are generally older with higher levels of education and income, are married or widowed, and are religiously active.

At this time of year many provincial and national groups solicit donations both because of the season and the nearing of year end for charitable tax benefits.  If you are planning to make charitable donations please also consider the more than 50 local charitable organizations that are working for the betterment of your community or local region.  Information about these organizations can often be found by phoning the organization directly or, for those with internet access, consulting the Government of Canada website at www.cra-arc.gc.ca .

One local organization that I hope you will consider is Survivor's Hope Crisis Centre Inc., an organization addressing the issue of sexual violence in northeastern Manitoba through its SARAH and SADI programs. Trained SARAH volunteers provide crisis intervention support on request to victims of sexual violence reporting to local hospitals.  The SADI program seeks to prevent or lessen the number of incidents of violence through education by presenting workshops identifying the root causes of violence and promoting healthy relationships to middle and secondary students in the North Eastman region.

Donations may be sent directly to

Survivor's Hope Crisis Centre Inc. at Box 925, Pinawa, MB R0E 1L0, or made online at www.givemeaning.com/project/SADI

Thank you for your support and have a happy holiday season.
