LEST
WE FORGET
IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders fields the
poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
That mark our place; and in the sky
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

About
The Author
A
little bit about myself; my name
is June and I hope you are enjoying my newsletter from the
centre, because it's only going to get better! I started
my new job as the Administrative Assistant at the Selkirk
& District Community Learning Centre this past July.
Part of my new job is to write and send out our newsletter,
which is full of the courses we offer at the centre.
I loved going to school at the centre and I know you would
too! Come out and see what we are all about, drop
in and see our place to be!

RER

"Responsible
Electronics Recycling"
Be
responsible "RECYCLE" your old electronics!
We
take just about any kind of Electronics
& Ink
Cartridges!
Why? Because ewaste is extremely toxic when not disposed
of in an approved manner! The RER was first conceived four
years ago when it was noted that electronics waste or ewaste
often found its way into landfills throughout Manitoba.

Job
Quest - Career Services - 204-482-2100
TIPS
TO HELP YOU GET THAT JOB!!!
Resume
Tips
- Prepare
a targeted resume; preferably
with a career summary or highlights section at the beginning.
- Include
only information that is relevant
to the position for which you are applying. Bring any extra
information with you to the interview.
- Proofread.
Proofread. Proofread.
Cover Letter Tips
- Address
your cover letter to a specific person
- preferably the decision-maker.
- Sell.
Sell. Sell - tell the reader why he or she
should continue reading the letter and phone you for an
interview; specify, by a few examples, how you have what
they are looking for.
- Keep
it brief (one page); be targeted;
use correct grammer, spelling
and punctuation.
Job Search
Techniques
- Know
your "60-second commercial":
the skills, experience, or training you have that an employer
will want.
- Network:
tell your "commercial" to everyone you meet -
AND ask them to tell your commercial to others.
- Follow-up:
regarding jobs that closed recently; with network contacts;
with employers regarding a job for which you had previously
applied.
Interview
Tips
- Do
advance research: know yourself (your skills
and abilities); know the position (key job requirements);
know the company (mission statement / philosophy of service
/ company culture).
- Don't
rely on flying by the seat of your pants with your verbal
communication: prepare your answers
to the most commonly asked interview questions and practice
them out loud.
- Non-verbal
communication speaks volumes: be aware of
your facial expressions, handshake, body posture and language.
- Bring
your career portfolio to the interview to
"show you know".
- Send
a thank-you note after the interview - refer
to something you discussed and add another detail.

InkBank
Recycle
your empty printer cartridges to help us earn money!
The
Selkirk & District Community Learning Centre has enrolled
in a wonderful new fundraising program called InkBank Cartridge
Recycling. This program offers us an almost effortless
way to raise money to support our projects - and to protect
our planet. We earn money simply by recycling used printer,
fax and copier cartridges that were destined for the trash.
Here's
How You Can Help:
- Save
your eligible cartridges you use at home, workplace or business.
- Ask
friends, family, employers to help support our fundraising
efforts.
- Collect
only eligible cartridges (All Epson cartridges are not eligible).
- Drop
off the empty cartridges to the Selkirk Learning Centre
or call to arrange for pick up (204) 482-2111.
- NOTE:
Previously recycled or remanufactured cartridges cannot
be accepted.
To

ink cartridges click
