1. 2019 National Convention Updates

The 2019 ELCIC National Convention took place at the University of Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan from July 11-13, 2019. Election results, motions passed, photos and more can be found on the main 2019 National Convention page on the ELCIC website.

 

Post-Convention Survey

The ELCIC has prepared a survey asking for your feedback on the 2019 National Convention. The online questionnaire touches on various aspects from convention including supplied material, business meetings, guest speakers, exhibitors, meals etc.
 
Please click here to make your submission. Information from your survey response will be used by the planning committee for future conventions.

 

Mailing From National Office

Congregations should have receieved a mailing from the National Office with highlights and resources from convention. If your congregation has not received this package, please email orders@elcic.ca.

 

Daily Highlights

Writeups, press releases and videos from each day of convention have been assembled on the ELCIC website, under the 'Daily Highlights' tab. All videos taken from the livestream - including sermons and special guest presentations - can be found by following this link.

 

 

2. The 2018 ELCIC Annual Report

 

The ELCIC National Office has been preparing an Annual Report for several years now. This publication highlights mission and ministry and is a great resource to share with members of your congregation, your church council, groups that you might meet with and even give to new members or those interested in the ELCIC! Copies of this publication are available at no cost from the National Office. To order copies for your congregation, please email orders@elcic.ca. You can also download the annual report or view online by clicking here.

 

 

3. Stewardship Resources

 

The ELCIC National Office will be sending out an email in the next few days highlighting the various stewardship resources that are available from the National Office. This email will be sent to all ELCIC congregations but if you would like to ensure you are on the email list, please contact tgallop@elcic.ca

NEW this year, we will be holding a video session in September to help walk congregations through the stewardship resources that are available and some suggestions for how to use them. If you would like to make sure you receive information about this session, please email tgallop@elcic.ca.

4. En Route CLAY 2020

 

Clay 2020 �?? August 20-23, 2020, Calgary, Alberta

"Weren't our hearts on fire within us as Jesus was talking with us on the road, and as he was opening the scriptures for us?" (Luke 24:32)

We are all on a journey. Maybe that sounds cliché, but it's true. Our stories are unfinished, works in progress - we are En Route! And our journey causes us to ask some big questions along the way: Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going? Where do I belong?

Calling all musicians and actors - We are now accepting applications for Band and Drama team. Will you share your God-given talents at En Route? If you will be at least 18 years of age by the time of En Route, fill in the application form. Applications are due by October 6, 2019. We look forward to hearing from you.

Mutual Ministry Guide

A new Mutual Ministry Guide has been prepared by the ELCIC. The purpose of this guide is:

  1. To help congregations and leaders to nurture good and healthy mutual relationships.
  2. To provide guidelines to facilitate intentional and regular evaluations of congregational ministries, the staff and rostered ministers.
  3. To seek together opportunities for growth and renewal.

Season of Creation

The ELCIC invites members and congregations to join with Christians of various traditions to observe a Season of Creation from September 1 to October 4, 2019 (sometimes called Time for Creation). The invitation is to observe a particular practice of connecting faith, worship, stewardship of creation and healthy relationships with the earth during this season. "Doctrine of Discovery: Stolen Lands, Strong Hearts"

This film, prepared by the Anglican Church's Primate's Commission on Discovery, Reconciliation and Justice, explores a devastating decision, made over 500 years ago, which continues to profoundly impact Indigenous and Settler people worldwide. More information can be found here.


Encountering People of Other Faiths: Interfaith Guidelines
The ELCIC has provided a resource to support your journey with people of other faith backgrounds and cultural differences. This resource is listed on the ELCIC website.

The Call to Faithfully Journey with those who are Dying: An ELCIC Resolution
The 2019 National Convention has adopted this resolution on journeying with those who are dying. The conversations continue in our lives and ministries. Further information can be found here.

The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking

The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking is a national charity dedicated to mobilizing collective action and system change to end human trafficking in Canada. A new national hotline was launched recently to provide services such as crisis response to people being trafficked; referrals to social service providers and law enforcement (as requested); and more. KAIROS: Climate Action Month

 

 

KAIROS will promote September as Climate Action Month to explore the climate crisis and highlight the work of their members and networks. On each day in September, an event, blog post, environmental challenge - or some combination of all three - will be posted and noted on a calendar on the KAIROS website. These will include regional, national, and international events and resources. Click here to learn more. Respect Justice Camp 2019 - August 13-19

Justice Camp is an initiative of our Full Communion partner, the Anglican Church of Canada. This year, Respect Justice Camp 2019 is being held in Windsor, Ont. and is open to anyone over 18 years of age who is interested in justice issues. With Passion for the Church and the World: LWF Strategy 2019-2024

The Lutheran World Federation recently released With Passion for the Church and the World which sets out the strategic priorities for the coming years. The priorities are (1) supporting churches' presence and vibrant witness in the world and (2) promoting human dignity, justice and peace. The full text is available for download here. The Rev. Dr. Martin Junge, LWF General Secretary recently preached at the 2019 National Convention.

11. Schools and Seminaries

Principal-Dean Search Underway at Martin Luther University College

In the spring of 2020, at the end of his five-year term as the Principal-Dean of Martin Luther University College, Rev. Dr. Mark W. Harris plans to retire. A search committee was struck and an application package has been distributed. All application materials must be received by Sept. 30, 2019.

 

Luther Waterloo Links with Earth Charter
Martin Luther University College has signed a memorandum of understanding with Earth Charter International (ECI) as a way of strengthening the school's commitment to care for creation. Under the three-year agreement, Earth Charter International will provide scholarships for Luther members taking ECI courses or programs. Luther is to incorporate the charter into its training, and promote the activities of Earth Charter Initiative. For more information, see the full announcement.

 

A New Path for Lutheran Theological Seminary Saskatoon

Lutheran Theological Seminary (LTS) Saskatoon has chosen a new home. It will share the Lutheran Campus Centre at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon with Lutheran Campus Ministry. This building is located at 1302 College Avenue, close to the heart of the University and across the street from two of its friends: St. Andrew's College and St. Thomas More College.
