1. Thursdays in Black

On Thursday, the first day of convention, we invite you to wear black and participate in Thursdays in Black. This campaign was started by the World Council of Churches in the 1980s as a form of peaceful protest against rape and violence - especially taking place in areas of conflict. Thursdays in Black focuses on ways through which individuals may challenge attitudes that lead to gender-based violence. This is one way that we can participate in the programming of one of our ecumenical partners. It also lifts up concerns for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

2. Reformation Challenge photos needed

WE NEED YOUR PHOTOS! Bring your 4x6 and 5x7 photos from ELCIC Reformation Challenge events that you and your congregation have participated in and add them to our PHOTO DISPLAY!

3. Bulletin of Reports

A significant part of a delegate's preparation for convention involves reading through and becoming familiar with the material provided in the Bulletin of Reports to enable full participation in convention business sessions and discussion. Section B - Information for Attendees, in the Bulletin of Reports contains general information about onsite registration and the logistics of attending the convention.

The Bulletin of Reports is available online for all to view!

4. Worship Services

The Local Convention Worship Planning Committee requests all to bring with them a copy of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship to be used during the Opening and Closing worship services.

5. Transportation

The transportation schedule for delegate arrivals and departures has been posted to the ELCIC website. Pickups from the airport will occur on July 5 and 6 with transportation departures to the airport occurring on July 8.

6. Meals

All breakfasts, lunches and dinners will be served in the Pembina Hall Cafeteria, 26 MacLean Crescent. Meals will be available in the cafeteria from lunch on Wednesday, July 5 to lunch on Saturday, July 8. A meal wristband for delegates staying at university residences will be provided upon check-in. Meal tickets for delegates staying off campus will be provided in your onsite registration package. Meals are scheduled during the convention as follows:

  • Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., Friday and Saturday
  • Lunch: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday
  • Dinner: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday

For those delegates arriving outside these time frames, there are some food options available on the lower level of University Centre as well as Tim Hortons located on the second floor.

7. Registration Desk

After you check-in at the Arthur V. Mauro Residence, make your way to the University Centre to pick up your registration package at the Registration Desk located on the second floor. Ushers will be around to point you in the right direction during registration hours. The Registration Desk hours on July 5 and 6 are as follows:

  • Wednesday, July 5: 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 6: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Upon registering, you will receive a name tag which is required to be worn at all National Convention sessions, events and meals.

8. Table Seating - Delegates

There will be assigned seating for delegates at convention. You will find your table number on the table seating charts located in the second floor lobby near the entrance doors to the Killarney/Neepawa rooms (plenary hall).

9. WI-FI Internet Access

Wireless network access at University Centre and the residences is complimentary. You will find the username and password on your registration envelope.

10. Weather

We recommend you pack a collapsible umbrella or lightweight rain jacket as we have been experiencing rainy weather in Winnipeg this summer. A light sweater may also be useful.

11. Youth Delegates

Any delegates, 25 years of age or younger, are invited to gather at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 6 (please eat lunch first) in Room 543 at University Centre to meet one another. There will also be other opportunities to gather together throughout convention.

12. Updates and Convention Information

Keep posted on all the latest updates and information on our 2017 National Convention by visiting the ELCIC website. Check back often for updates! Updates will also be posted to the ELCIC's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Post your highlights and search for others using the convention hashtag #ELCICconv.

13. Sermon for July 9

National Bishop Susan C. Johnson has prepared a sermon for use in congregations on the Sunday following convention, July 9. While traditionally prepared for use by a lay leader in the absence of a rostered minister who has been selected as a delegate for convention, all congregations are encouraged to use this message from our National Bishop. You can find the sermon here.

14. Livestreaming

We will once again be providing live streaming for the National Convention, including: Opening and Closing worship, and all sessions taking place in the main plenary hall. Links will be posted via the ELCIC website.

Some of the resources mentioned in E-Communique are available from the ELCIC National Office. If you
