Grey Cup in Winnipeg

On Sunday, November 19 th , 2006 Winnipeg hosted the Canadian Football League finals at the Winnipeg Canad Inns Stadium. It was -7 degrees outside, but that didn't stop the 45,000 fans from packing the stadium to cheer on the BC Lions and the Montreal Alouettes! Nelly Furtado also sang during the half-time act. BC won the game 25-14 and everyone had a great time!

Heartland Wedding

When students come to Heartland they usually have a wonderful time and make lots of friends. Some students are even lucky enough to find their true love. Recently, two of our former students who met at Heartland got married! The bride is from Taiwan , the groom is from Japan , and their friends are from all over! The wedding took place in Japan , and several Heartland students attended.

Congratulations Ellen and Yoichi!

Winter is here!

After a hot and dry summer with no mosquitoes, and a nice autumn, we were hoping of a mild winter, but the cold and the snow has arrived! We can't complain though because the city looks beautiful covered in white, and we are all looking forward to lots of fun winter activities like ice-skating, building snowmen, and of course Heartland's annual Winter Holiday Party! If you are in town, please feel free to join the festivities on Friday, December 15 th in the afternoon. Enjoy tree decorating, gift sharing, laughter and good times! There might even be a visit from Santa Claus!

Kari's Mini Lesson (Beginner-Advanced)

Vocabulary Mini-Lesson

  1. Down the long side of a piece of paper, write the alphabet.
  2. For each letter of the alphabet, think of an adjective that begins with that letter.
  3. After having thought of an adjective for each letter, (use a dictionary if you need help) write the opposite.
  4. For example: B — breathtaking does NOT equal ugly.

The opposing adjective can begin with any letter.

  5. Go find a learning friend. Practice using the more challenging adjectives in questions. Have your partner respond to the question in a complete sentence. The answer can contain the adjective used in the question or its opposite.
  6. This activity can also be used for verbs and adverbs.

Happy Holidays!

From all the staff at Heartland, we wish you a happy holiday season and best wishes for 2007.
