Heartland International English School

Happy Halloween from Heartland!

On Friday, October 28th, we held our annual Halloween party at Heartland. The party was full of fun activities including pumpkin carving, haunted house, and costume contest. The costumes were impressive, as always! Can you recognize your teachers & friends?

Politicians in the Heartland Family - UPDATE:

As mentioned in the last e-newsletter, there was a civic election in Winnipeg on October 25, 2006 to determine a new Mayor, City Councillors, and School Trustees (http://winnipedia.ca/wiki/Winnipeg_Civic_Election_of_2006 ).

Mayor Sam Katz was re-elected. Although Kaj Hasselriis (Kari's brother) did not win the election, we would like to congratulate him on a well run race!

Also, Gary Gervais, the Director of Heartland, was elected as School Trustee during this election for the Louis Riel School Division. Congratulations!

Getting Out of a Conversation

You know how to start a conversation:

            'Hi!  How are you?'

...or:     'What's new?'

...or:     'How are you doing?'

There are many ways to start talking to someone, but how do you stop?  You don't want to be rude, so you have to hint.  (A hint is when you talk indirectly about something.)

After you talk with your friend, you can give a hint about time:

'I don't want to be late for class...'

...or:    'I've got to get up early tomorrow, so...'

...or:    'Well, it's close to dinner time, so I've got to get going...'

Then, if your friend notices and says goodbye, you're free to go, without hurting his or her feelings.

Well...it's getting late, so I've got to, you know, stop this lesson.  See you later!
