Give a Penny, Save a Life
Make your final pennies count and donate them to help prevent malaria in Canadian Lutheran World Relief'sproject countries!
In light of the Canadian government's recent decision to phase pennies out of circulation, CLWR is encouraging congregations, schools, youth groups, and Sunday School classes to roll all those stray pennies lingering in jars and on dresser tops, cash them in, and donate the results to provide mosquito nets to families in countries where malaria is prevalent.
Over 3 billion people are at risk for malaria, and every 60 seconds, an African child dies from the disease.
Every little bit counts! It only takes $10 to provide a family with a mosquito net, one of the safest and most effective ways to prevent malaria. Find out how to contribute at bit.ly/clwrpennies. Photo: Jonathan Ernst for Lutheran World Relief
Supporting Opportunities for Palestinians
CLWR continues to support health care, job training, and cultural and educational opportunities for Palestinians. CLWR executive director Robert Granke was recently blogging from East Jerusalem and the West Bank about a new job training centre in Ramallah, a new gymnasium and theatre for students in Bethlehem, and a new Elder and Palliative Care pavillion planned for the Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem. These new facilitieswill make a real difference to Palestinians who face extreme challenges accessing training, education, and adequate health care due to the political and economic situation in the region.
